Heavy-ion

a) Had been a collaborator in the WA98 experiment at CERN. With two other students and couple of technical assistants, I had been responsible for fabrication of almost 12,000 small scintillator detector pads each of which was tested here at IOP before assembly of the Photon Multiplicity Detector (had about 56,000 small pads). Apart from participating in detector fabrication the IOP group has contributed significantly on the software front as well. Using data from both the PMD and SPMD we have been very actively involved in the search of DCC. Another area of interest has been the study of flow at SPS.

(Collaborators form IOP: B. K. Nandi (now with UC at Riverside ), G. C. Mishra (leaving for the Georgia State Unversity, Atlanta ), B. Mohanty and D. P. Mahapatra).

b) We have also joined the ALICE collaboration of CERN. Again with five other indian groups we are involved with the design, prototyping and fabrication of a gas based honeycomb PMD for use in the ALICE experiment. We have been participating in testbeam runs using various detector modules. Now the design parameters have been almost frozen.

(Collaborators: A. K. Dubey, B. Mohanty, D. P. Mahapatra and S. C. Phatak)

c) If everything goes well (financing and of course getting US visa) we plan to be at BNL as a part of the STAR Collaboration.
