(3 September, 2006)

  • The write up of his talk titled ``Towards the concept of a new nationhood: Languages and Literatures in India''is here (the html version).

  • Professor U.R. Ananthamurthy is one of the greatest writers of our country. Today, Indian literature stands on the strong pillars of literary works done in our regional languages. Ananthamurthy's contribution to this is immense. Though he writes mainly in Kannada, being a eminent thinker and a teacher his stature is far beyond the borders of languages.
Prof. Ananthamurthy was born in Melige, Karnataka in 1932. He did his post graduation in Mysore University and later got his Ph. D from Birmingham. He was a professor of English literature at Mysore University and was later the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. He held many important positions in the fields of literature and academics. He was chairman of national book trust and president of Kendra Sahitya academy. He held guest professorships in many Indian Universities and Universities in Europe and America.
