Institute
of Physics, Bhubaneswar AMS facility
The
3 million volt NEC 9SDH-2 pelletron accelerator of IOP, Bhubaneswar was procured in 1991
and commissioned in 1992, as
a multi-disciplinary research accelerator for various physics
experiments.

at IOP, Bhubaneswar
This
tandem pelletron accelerator was augmented between
1998 and 2003 for
measurements of radiocarbon (14C)
and other isotopes by accelerator mass
spectrometry (AMS). This upgrade was possible with
generous financial support from Dept. of Atomic Energy, Dept.
of Space, Dept. of Science & Technology and Council of Scientific
& Industrial Research of Govt. of India. The AMS facility at Institute of Physics,
Bhubaneswar is the first operational AMS facility in India for routine
analysis of 14C.

Between 2004 and 2007,
the AMS facility of IOP provided 14C dates for a variety
of samples catering to
the needs of scientists of diverse research disciplines of earth
sciences and
archaeology.
We are unable to accept
samples from external users for 14C analysis till further
notice.
